On October 26, 2003, 47 representatives of citizen groups and state and federal government agencies convened for the seventh annual Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail Caucus at the Atrium at Meadowlark Gardens.
Co-sponsors of the Caucus included the Potomac Trail Council, the National Park Service and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
As in past years, goals of our 2003 Caucus included:
- providing a basic level of coordination among a variety of individuals, agencies and organizations;
- recognizing the hard work of PHT supporters in bringing greater public attention to the trail concept;
- encouraging new opportunities for outdoor recreation and expanded tourism throughout the corridor;
- conducting business as necessary to reach consensus on the most urgent needs within the corridor;
- creating a spirit of community while encouraging standards of excellence in trail planning, development and construction.
